A Study on the Work Activities and Role of the Senior High School Health Nurse

Abstract
Purpose: The study was to ascertain the attitude of both school nurse teacher herslf and the students and teachers was regard to the importance of her role and activity, in order to gather materials that would be helpful in planning and revision of the school nursing program and improvement in the quality of school nurse personnel. Furthermore, was research to ascertain the duties and role of the school nurse in supporting and improving the health level of students and teacher.
Procedure: For the present study a random sampling of 40 school health nurses, 100 general teachers and 200male and female high school students were selected as the subjects, these being chosen from the high schools in Busan City.
A questionnaire was used to do the study and the mean differential score was calculated between the group using the T test.
Conclusions:
1. Work Activities of a School Nurse
1) Among girls high schools there are many that have independently established school nurse office but among boys high schools, most have a school nurse *office shared for other purposes.
2) In public schools there is more active cooperation in regard to health work than in private schools.
3) There are only 5 schools with an established school health committee
4) Among the plans for health activities all schools are giving a routine health examination once a year and vaccination and worm treatment at least twice a year.
5) The school nurses are overloaded with responsibility in carrying lecture schedules as well as the duties of the school nurse
6) In the boys industrial high school, the number of students using the school nursing services is greater than in the girls high schools.
7) In the boys ¢¥industrial high schools the use of surgical services was greater while¢¥ in girls high schools, the use of medical services was greater.
2. Degree of Importance in the Role of the School Nurse:
1) The school nurse herself evaluated health education as having a higher rate of importance than other groups.
2) The girl students rated environmental hygiene as higher in importance than other groups.
3) The school nurse herself rated the school nurses role in relation to the community as higher in importance than other groups.
4) Most all groups rated the individual personality of the school nurse very highly but the school nurses & the female students rated this higher than the male students & general teachers.
